Development of the Klybeck site «klybeckplus»
The site, located between the grassland and the Rhine in Kleinbasel, marks a central point between the Klybeck and Matthäus neighbourhoods. Originally used by Novartis and BASF, the area is being transformed into a forward-looking project.
In 2016, a cooperation was initiated between the then landowners and the Canton of Basel-Stadt to jointly develop the approximately 280,000 m² site into an attractive overall project. 2019 saw significant changes: Rhystadt AG, part of Central Real Estate Holding AG (CREH) and a leading force in sustainable and visionary city development projects, took over the Novartis site, while the BASF site was taken over by Swiss Life and Rheinwiese AG.
Rhystadt AG has the support of a consortium of three renowned companies for the ambitious Klybeck site development: Mettler Entwickler AG, Nova Property Fund Management AG and Credit Suisse Asset Management (Schweiz) AG. With this strong team, Klybeck will become an outstanding example of modern, liveable urban development. In 2020, the three new planning partners presented the visionary «klybeckplus» concept to the public, a milestone in Basel’s urban development.
The project reached another high point in mid-2021 with the presentation of the «klybeckplus» indicative project. The local population was actively involved in the planning process through various events, with opportunities for participation and dialogue playing a central role in incorporating the concerns and ideas of citizens directly into the project.
The first projects on the various parts of the site are scheduled for completion in 2025, with the overall development of the site continuing until 2040, a testament to the long-term commitment and the innovative spirit that characterises this project.
