Social responsibility
Social responsibility in project development: our sustainable approach to creating a liveable community
At Mettler, we are committed to taking a holistic approach that encompasses both social and environmental responsibility. We see ourselves not only as a commercial player, but also as an active creator of a liveable community. By creating affordable housing and promoting a social mix, we are sending a clear signal in support of sustainability and social integration. Our projects reflect our commitment not just to building homes, but to creating spaces where people can live and work. We are fulfilling our responsibility to society.
Promoting inclusive communities through non-profit housing
Non-profit housing aims to provide affordable housing for a broad section of the population. The federal government actively promotes social justice and the availability of affordable housing. The clear guideline for the cantons is to always include a certain proportion of non-profit housing in large-scale projects. As a private company, we implement this official requirement and thus contribute to creating a balanced social structure. It serves to avoid one-sided population structures and promotes sustainable urban development as well as a vibrant, inclusive community. A diverse image of society strengthens tolerance and resilience. By recognising different lifestyles and social classes as enriching, our horizons are broadened. This approach also makes an important contribution to alleviating the housing shortage and providing stable, affordable housing.
«We interpret the role of project development as not only building houses, but also designing communities that combine sustainable living, innovative technologies and social well-being.»
Shared spaces and paths are another dimension of social responsibility in project development
Another important aspect of social responsibility in development are paths and the creation of shared spaces. Ensuring that the site is accessible for pedestrians, cyclists and other user groups is a key aspect of large-scale projects in particular, which also contributes to acceptance among various stakeholder groups. Shared spaces set against a beautiful backdrop, which can also be used by the public, are valued highly and create the promised added value.
Semi-private shared spaces, often designed as green spaces, not only contribute to the quality of life on the site, but also fulfil an important function in today's climate by contributing to natural cooling in the summer months. These spaces are also designed to facilitate uncomplicated and pleasant interactions between residents, neighbours and passers-by. A playground, for example, encourages parents with children of a similar age to get to know each other. The development of living spaces therefore means more than just the creation of housing. It is about creating places that encourage people to come together and form the basis for new friendships and communities.
«As a society, we need to be able to create living spaces that are accessible to everyone.»
Responsible role as employer and client: focus on partnership and the local community
Our social responsibility is not limited to our projects; it also extends to our role as an employer and client. We attach great importance to working together as partners based on trust and reliability, both internally and externally. For our employees, this means not only a wide range of benefits, but above all the freedom to shape and progress their careers.
Our network of contractors and business partners is strongly focussed on local entrepreneurs. We maintain long-term business relationships based on shared values and the principle of sustainable and responsible development. These local connections not only help to strengthen the regional economy, but also ensure that our projects are implemented in line with local conditions and needs. Overall, our responsibility as an employer and client reflects our commitment to holistic social responsibility that extends beyond the boundaries of our projects.
Strategic integration of social responsibility
Where possible and appropriate, we integrate non-profit housing into our projects right from the outset, thereby enabling affordable housing that is subsidised by the income from other types of property on the site. Our developments are based on thorough market research to ensure that we can create added value for all stakeholder groups, and we maintain a regular dialogue with authorities, relevant agencies and user groups so that our projects are designed in line with the times and suit specific needs.
Our approach is characterised by innovative construction and design concepts, with great emphasis on cost efficiency and sustainability. Our focus is not only on short-term profits, but also on long-term, sustainable growth that has a positive impact on both the community and the environment, while also ensuring financial success.
«
In a changing world, we see the creation of affordable, non-profit housing not just as a challenge, but as a transformative opportunity. Our vision extends beyond buildings – we create vibrant, diverse communities based on social responsibility and environmental awareness. These communities should not only provide housing, but also be a source of inspiration for a better future. The future lies in designing our living spaces in a sustainable and inclusive way, whereby social justice and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Our mission is not just to develop properties, but to bring about positive change and create a fulfilling, sustainable future for all.
